How to Make Skinny Ranch Dressing
This Americans’ favorite dipping, ranch dressing can be used with/in various dishes like salad, chips, pizza, and many more. This dipping sauce also has many variations nowadays. Some make it thick and others make the thin version. The herbs and ingredients also vary. If you prefer creamy, tangy, and healthy ranch dressing, follow the Skinny ranch dressing recipe with a few ingredients below. The dressing is quiet and if you prefer thicker you can add more the amount of certain ingredients or substitute with other ingredients.
The following recipe only takes five minutes for preparation and an hour for cooking. The recipe is for 5 servings or about 275 grams. The ingredients mostly used are fresh. Yet if you want simpler ingredients and ways, the 3-ingredients Skinny ranch dressing recipe is also presented. Both recipes taste awesome. Just try them yourself.
- Plain and non-fat Greek yogurt, 71.25 grams or a quarter cup
- Shaken buttermilk, 182 grams or ¾ cup
- Sour cream, 3 tablespoons
- Lemon juice, 3 teaspoons
- Minced garlic, 1 clove
- Pepper, ¼ teaspoon
- Salt, ¼ teaspoon
- Chives, 2 tablespoons
- Parsley, 3 tablespoons
For the simple 3-ingredients only:
- Buttermilk or milk, 2 up to 4 tablespoons
- Non-fat Greek yogurt, 285 grams or one cup
- Dry ranch seasoning, one packet
Instructions for Making Skinny Ranch Dressing
- Mix the sour cream, lemon juice, and Greek yogurt until combined.
- Add in the minced garlic, chives, parsley, salt, and pepper. Stir thoroughly.
- Refrigerate for one hour at the minimum before servings.
- If you want to make a stock, seal the ranch dressing in an airtight container in the freezer. The sauce could last up to a week.
The steps for the 3-ingredients Skinny ranch dressing recipe are also similar. You basically only need to mix all three ingredients together. Refrigerate and then serve it. This simpler recipe could even last longer as its fresh ingredients are less. If you feel raw garlic has a too strong taste, you replace it by adding a tablespoon of garlic powder. For a thicker result, you could replace the buttermilk with light mayo or add more Greek yogurt and/or sour cream. For a more nutritious option, use full-fat sour cream and full-fat yogurt.
If you cannot finish the dressing in one go, you can always store it in a fridge. Make sure to put it in an airtight container and always stir or shake before serving. This Skinny ranch dressing recipe makes a little bit sour but long-lasting dressing than other homemade recipes. It is because the lemon juice in the recipe helps to make yogurt, sour cream and buttermilk have substantial shelf-life.
To give ideas, this Skinny ranch dressing blends well in buffalo wings, barbeque, chipotle, burgers, and others. While cooking, use this ranch as the marinade for grilled pork or chicken. As the dipping itself, grab Parmesan cheese, nutritional yeast, chicken, pizza, pork cutlets, fresh or steamed veggies (broccoli, potatoes, carrots), fries, crackers, and dozens of other dishes. For spicy addicts, adding chipotle peppers or mixing with buffalo sauce and Sriracha will do.
